Phrasal verb é um verbo curto mais uma palavrinha (on, off, up, for), e a palavrinha muda o sentido. To turn sozinho é virar; to turn on é ligar; to turn off é desligar. Traduzir peça por peça não funciona: o par vale como uma palavra só.
Três armadilhas para quem fala português. Ligar a TV não é open the TV, é turn on the TV. Apagar a luz não é close the light, é turn off the light. E procurar precisa do for: look for my phone, e não look my phone.
Roupa e sapato se vestem com put on e se tiram com take off: Put on your jacket. Take off your shoes.
Acordar e levantar são dois verbos diferentes, como em português: to wake up é abrir os olhos, to get up é sair da cama.
Sentar é to sit down, com o verbo to sit. Seat é o assento, o lugar onde você senta.
Palavras novas de passagem: light (luz), shoes (sapatos), cold (frio), hot (quente), price (preço), tonight (hoje à noite).
